Blow out - only cosmetic damage to the wheel rim?
I've only myself to blame. I made a bad job of seating a new tyre, probably with a bit of inner tube trapped under the bead, and it blew out and took the tyre off the rim with it. The rim - a once-pristine Mavic Open Pro - did a couple of turns on the road, so one of the edges has a whole bunch of little chips and gouges in it, but the tyre looks OK.
So the question - how safe is the rim now? I've used some very fine sandpaper to take down any sharp edges of the chips/pits/scratches, and put the tyre back on with a new tube (trying to reuse the old one is looking like a false economy now), but is there any danger that the less-than-perfectly-smooth rim could damage the tyre?

cracks should form before it fails, you might want to mark any sus bits with a marker and see if they grow with use
I have only ever seen bmx and dj bikes really burst a rim, just keep an eye on it, and chain reaction for a cheap rim (no rush wait for the sale)
clinchers have a wee rib on the inside of the rim, this is what the bead of the tyre locks into (should be ok)0 -
Thanks for that, I hadn't even thought about cracking! I'm not that concerned about the rim itself bursting - it's only a couple of years old and I use only non-abrasive pads - but my biggest concern was that the edge of the rim could damage the tyre. The bead hook is OK - I've checked that - so this has been quite reassuringSpecialized Roubaix Elite 2015

I had excatly same issue a month ago , except it was a `gash` along top of a DT swiss rim on my very best wheelset too, and tyre was damaged on sidewall. I very gently rubbed down / fine file the rough area and have used wheel for 200 miles + since no problems at all and rubbed down area feels smooth.
IMO you should be absolutely fine , having checked any other issues eg wheel still true (mine need a bit of tweaking), spoke hole cracks, other damage0 -
Simple file-down and smooth-off the rough bits with emery paper and rim should be fine. I doubt that the tyre giving way wouold have cracked the rim unless the rim was seriously distorted plus aluminium alloys aren't very flexible and would stay distortedMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0
