I have managed to get a cracking deal on an oldish orange g3 bike and i am slowly gathering together the pieces week by week to complete the build. Any advice anybody can give for a diy builder?

I've just put a bike together myself and the best thing I can recommend is to get yourself some decent tools, they make it a hell of a lot easier!! Also check the workshop & tech forum on this site if you get stuck, it certainly helped me out.

With regards to the build, if in doubt, check the Parktool site here!

I've got a G3 and would recommend bumping up the front travel to 120mm (can be done fairly easily with certain RockShox forks) and ditching the 60mm stem/660mm bars for a 70mm stem/wider bars (I use 711mm bars, right width for me). The 60mm stem was far too twitchy, so I'd get rid of it as soon as. Bumping up the travel slackens the bike off nicely too, makes it much more capable descending.

The tech forums have been excellent so far.
And ghostt is it possible with tora rocks do you know?
I also need to do some research into new bars for myself as im 6'4" i think ill need a wider bar. Any brands to recommend?

Looking good their mate and i'm really liking the colour scheme you've got going on with the frame and forks as i think your bike will look pretty cool when it's completed lol .

The Wheels arrived this morning! Mach 1's all i can afford atm but still seem pretty decent for the budget!

The colour scheme is more luck than judgement atm! Standard forks for that frame. Extremely lucky deal on them both together.

Adding blue and purple accessories to jazz her up a little!

I'm not sure how well the wheels and tyres will fair as i've not had them before but they look pretty capable of doing job and the wheels look good too but i'm not certain if your adding to many colours to the bike overall but at the end of the day that's a personal choice so i'll just wait and see how it looks when you've sorted it .
