Seat clamp size, without taking the seatpost out!

After a botched repair job during a cycling trip abroad, my current seat clamp is pretty screwed, and i'm worried that when I take it off I won't be able to get it back on again. My bikes in daily use for a commute, so i'm trying to work out what size I need before I remove it.
I'm pretty sure from memory, the seatpost is a 27.2mm job, and a fairly accurate measurement taken of the circumference just below the current clamp gives me 112mm.
112 % 3.14 gives me 35.6, but this seems awfully big for a roadbike clamp? Am I going wrong somewhere?
The current clamp hasn't got a size stamped on it alas. The bike is a Giant SCR 3.0 for what it's worth, this one:

I have a giant, they use a shim so need 34.9mm. Just fitted one today on my OCR-1Say... That's a nice bike..
