Hi, I'm just about to replace the gear cables on my Felt and have come up against a headscratcher

The left gear shifter is easy to get the cable out of as it just pops out of the side

However, the right hand one doesn't seem to be anywhere as simple. I've looked and can't see how I remove the cable from the bar mounted gear/brake shifter

Advice please on how to remove and install. Thanks

It's the same as the left, but you have to shift all the way down to the last sprocket to get access to the head of the cable

That's right, operate the inner lever through all the clicks so that it's in 'top gear' with the right shifter, or on the 'little ring' with the left shifter.
The way the levers work is by rotating around inside and hence pulling the cable tighter to move to the bigger cogs - the lower gears at the back or the bigger ring at the front.
So release the tension using the inner little shifter lever, allowing them to rotate back internally, and if you pull the brake lever on so as to open the lever you should be able to push the cable though.

An issue you could have is if the cable has started to split and fray, when it would be caught-up inside the shifter - if so you might need to poke and prod a bit at the 'plum' on the end of the cable with a small screwdriver or similar to assist it through whilst pushing the cable through.

As above, but open up the front brake caliper (as if you were taking the wheel off) too. This allows you to pull the lever in enough to see the head of the cable in the shifter body.
