Running a pair of 404 carbon tubs and have been using 62mm vittoria vavle extenders.

The 62 mm extenders look silly as they are far too long so bought the 42mm valke replacements not knowing that these are not in fact extensions and made to replace the valve so wasted my money.......unless I'm being thick!!

Really confused as got the 40 mm zipp extenders that came with the wheels but but how the hell would I pump them up as cant seem to get a pump on the end as they are not threaded??

Use a Leyzne pump that has a co2 inflator but this wont seem to fit.
Also the fitment on the vittoria pit stop sealant if I get a puncture........would this work on the zipp extenders.

Happy to use the extenders if I can get a pump to fit them otherwise I'll have to but more 42mm valve extenders.

Bit of a ramble but need some help as bike and wheels now in bits!!

They are far too long and stick above the rim by about 40mm

? But if you carry them with the pump, and only use them when needed, it doesn't matter if they 'look silly' surely?

And? If it means that you can pump up your tyres then go for it. And as your wheel goes round no one can see them anyway. And they will look PRO.

Alternatively, just cut then down - from the bottom upwards obviously.
  • If the long extender screws over the top of the exisiting valve then leave the valve open, don't fit the extender on and just screw it on when you need to use it. Then take it off when you're finished and put it back in your pocket. Just make sure you nip the valve screw open so that you don't accidentally close it off as you screw on the extender.

This is how Mavic Cosmic Carbones work - you are not supposed to leave the extender on. Not that you would as it's a clunky brass thing.

Alternatively, get some removeable valve core tubes and just use the 42mm replacement e.g. Vittoria Ultralight 51mm. Check to make sure the resulting length is long enough for you though.
It doesn't get any easier, but I don't appear to be getting any faster.
