No, that mech is for use with 10 speed MTB levers. If you want an MTB rear mech to work with those Tiagra levers you will need a 9 speed one. If you want XT then an RD-M771 is the best bet.

Thanks. Would the Shadow M772 to also work with these levers? (I assume the M770 which is reverse is not an option.)

Both the Shadow 772 and the "rapid rise" M770 would work fine too. It is just the M771 is closest to the one you were originally looking at.

    Thanks for the advice.

So I think I'm going to replace my current compact double set up on my drop bar touring bike with the following to provide suitably lower gearing for touring with luggage.

Shimano Tiagra 4600 STI Triple 10 Speed Road Lever Set
Shimano Deore LX Triple Chainset with Chain Guard 48/36/26
Shimano XT M781 10 Speed Triple Front Derailleur
Shimano Dyna-Sys Deore XT 10 Speed Cassette 11-34
Shimano XT M771 9 Speed Rear Derailleur

I think all the above should be compatible. Is the front M781 Derailleur suitable with STI levers?
