How do I stop my chain touching my frame when wheel is out?

Is there anything I can buy for this purpose?

I was thinking of some old QR skewers with a jockey wheel on or something?

I just want to hold the chain out the way for when transporting in the car as I don't like it touching and knocking against the chain.

Cheers

Of course my 29 years old frame has a chain retainer for that... modern frames don't

Do a search at Ribble I think - there is a sort of q/r skewer thingy designed purposely for this. Either Ribble or CRC will hold such a thing. Or place a rag between the frame and the chain. One of the two I think.

My fairly modern Racelight Tk also has a chain retaining peg thing on the right seatstay.

It wasn't till I'd been browsing this forum for a while that I found out what it was though

Wrap the chain in a bit of rag, probably cheaper

I use a Pedro's device that is a wedge shape on a Q/R (bought to make up an order total) but whave seen quite a few that look like a skewer with one sproket. Have a look around on RIbble, CRC etc

Alternatively a bit of self-adhesive Frame Protector at the place on the chain stay where you know the chain will touch.

fit a kmc missing link, then you can easily remove/refit the chain, also makes it easier for cleaning

    They're called a chain keeper.

I have one that PBK no longer stocks. Essentially it's an axle with a QR lever and a 16 tooth sprocket built in, works a treat when I've got the bike in the stand and you can clean the chain on the bike with the wheel out.
  • BBB also do one - a fair few UK sites list it - BBB BTL-50 Chaingrip Chain Holder

Where is the chain touching the frame? If it's just the top of the chainstay then why don't you have some kind of tape on there anyway?
    More problems but still living....

Don't suppose you've got a photo of it in action at all? I'd be intrigued to know how it works.

It's a small pin on the inside of the drive-side seatstay, that you hook the chain onto as you take the wheel out. It's not like some of the devices above that keeps the chain in tension for maintenance.

Pedro's wedge with q/r approx £8, okay by me.

    Morgan Blus Chain Keeper. http://www.wiggle.co.uk/morgan-blue-chain-keeper/

superb bit of kit, I use mine for transporting the bike in my car and for cleaning the bike in a work stand. Fits in seconds and holds chain securely away from the stays.

I've done this, but you'll need an old axle and cones to give the QR skewer something to tighten against. You don't really need the jockey wheel, but you could use it if you wanted to.

PBK used to sell such a thing, but I can't see it on there at the moment.

They do have the Pedros thing
