Hi,

I come from a trail/mountain bike background and looking at getting my first road bike. To be honest I'm not that good at all the technical stuff so I'm hoping I could get some advice from some pro's who know a lot more about specs than I do. I've fallen in love with the Cube Peloton Pro 2012 but I know from experience that basing bike purchases on look alone is usually a recipe for disaster. I've got a few choices below including the Cube Peloton Race Triple and Giant Defy 2 - to be honest though I don't really like the Giant range but I think that’s just me being extremely shallow and more to do with how the frame felt. My budget is around £800-£1000 and would love to hear any alternatives to the three listed below.

Thanks
P.s. I'm looking at using it for a mix of training, one or two triathlons (maybe) and the odd hilly sportive.

Check out Ribble too. Lot of bang for the buck. I have one & for the riding you are doing they are bang on. Most are pretty light which is nice for climbing.

I went with my best mate our local Cycle Surgery to help him pick his first road bike. He tried a couple of Giants and then saw a Cube Peloton which he instantly took a shine to. A quick once around the car park and he was handing over the cash.

A week later I was back picking up a Cube Agree GTC Pro. There must be something about Cubes beacause as soon as I saw them I decided I had to have one. They look great, ride great and the spec on them is superb.

A word of caution though. Make sure you get sized correctly for them as Cubes tend to be a size smaller than other bikes.

I am 5' 10.5" and the 58cm bike is ideal. My mate is 6' 1" and he had to go for the 60cm frame.

Thanks will definately look up Ribble. Sounds good.

Yep the Giant just didn't do it for me but when they wheeled out the 'we have just the right bike for you' Peloton Pro I was kinda sold - it took a lot not to part with the cash then and there, as I want to make sure it's the right decision.

Yep the guys in CycleSurgery explained that they are a size smaller - i'm 5ft9 and the 56in one seemed a good bet but will definately pop into a different branch to get refitted to make sure it's 100% accurate. I have bad memories of a great bike that was just too big for me!
  • Hi, im having the exact same dilemma at the minute. Considering either the Peleton Pro or Race as both are on sale at the minute. I was just wondering what you went with and how it faired out for you. I was also considering the Specialized Allez Elite..Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

I have the Peloton Pro on order, I'm 5 8' and think I'm getting a 53, they have to change the stem or something else for me for it to fit. I will let you know what happens when I collect, should be about 2 weeks or so.
