With the price of gel's and drinks been so dear I spent last night reading up on D.I.Y gels and drinks. I'm not a lover of plain water and i find high 5 zero ( berry) to be pretty good on the stomach. Also GO sis gel's seem ok for me as opposed to chewing on a bar.
So what's your home recipe for drinks and gel's ?.

Been making gels for years - The SIS ones are not my preferred, and they use more unusual gelling agents and more importantly preservatives if you're making them yourselves (the high water content means you cannot get long life out of homebrew ones because minimizing the water is how you prevent spoilage) So you would be making them very short term I'm afraid.

I just use maltex powder with a splash of lemon squash in the bottle. I'll add some caffeine powder sometimes as well if its a long or hard ride. VERY cheap when you get it at Myprotein, and dead easy to make up as drinks - just choose the flavour of squash you want. I dont use gels so havent yet tried any of Jim's homebrew recipes for those. Cheap homemade flapjacks and maltloaf are also good though :D
