Tubs and slow air leaks

I have a very slow leak on one of my tubs. It takes around 6 hours to noticeably reduce in pressure and around 24 hours to deflate completely. With the cost of new tubs I was thinking of putting some sealant gel in and see if that cures the problem. Is this a good or bad idea? If its a good idea which sealant is best? Any other advice other than the obvious of replacing the tub?

Many thanks

  • Back in the day, I'd repair my tubs using standard patches and re-sew the outers using Wenzel Thread and a thimble (linen thread for leatherwork that can be purchased on e bay for about £1.50).
