Hi, just wondering if any of you garmin users know if you need the gcs 10 speed sensor to sync to a powertap, it's the 500 by the way? Having trouble pairing the 2 together, changed batteries etc

Nope, you can run a 500 with just a PowerTap. (A speed sensor would be superfluous anyway, as the PT provides the same function.)

Just checking - have you adjusted the settings to tell the 500 to read from the PT?
Settings -> Bike Settings -> Bike 1/2 -> ANT+ Power -> (Power Meter Present?) Yes You can also "rescan" from the same menu.

    You don't on a 705 and can't see why you would on a 500.

You do know that a powertap transmits wheel RPM and Cadence (based on strain guage loading and unloading as you pedal) so really there's no need for the GSC-10?

Do you definitely have an ANT+ PowerTap? There are wireless PowerTap's that are not ANT+ (though they can be updated to ANT+ at a price).

If you've adjusted the settings as shown above and spun the wheel to wake the hub then the PowerTap should just be detected.

Try pairing it whilst wearing the Heart rate strap.

I was having trouble last week calibrating my Powertap until I found out on here you need to wear the H/R strap to calibrate. I'm sure it should pair without it, but give it a go

If you have HR sensor present selected in the settings, but you're not wearing the HR strap then the calibration doesn't work. If you select HR not present then calibration will work without the HR strap. It's a bug I guess.

Ahhh, that clears it up, was puzzled why this should be, so thanks for making sense of it 8)

Hi thanks for the replies, yeah I've tried to rescan the unit and change to my profile in bike settings. I guess I will have to have it sent as away, as it must not carry ANT, my powertap is just the 2.4, thought all the wireless powertaps had intergrated ANT built in, oh well guess not ha

ANT+ updater is probably all you need and it's only £67.50.
