What are you going to use it for?
Neither of those are mountain bikes

Of the two the Halcyon looks the better equipped, and frankly much nicer looking. The Subway is normally a pretty alright looking bike, but with this version they seem to have ruined it!

Agree the Halcyon looks like the better deal.
You might want to talk to some people here

Whole forum of commuters, so they'd be more clued up on commuting bikes, although Benpinnick does commute (only in nice weather I think because he's a pussy)

I would go for the Halcyon as it does look like the better deal of the two and besides that the after sales service isn't always that great from Halfords .

Just for commuting 4 miles, either is fine. Both are british brnads made in Tawian/far east, so really nothing to choose in terms of manufacture etc. Don't forget to buy some mudguards.

A number of us on here are commuters as well as MTB's

Mudguards are a must in the wetter (11 months) of the year, a rack is conveniant but at 4 miles you won't be building up much of a sweat anyway so a backpack will probably be OK.

My LBS sell Halcyon, quite nicely made and well specced for the price, that is definately the better specced of the 2 bikes.
