What bike?

Hi everyone, I am on the hunt for a road bike. I will be buying it through the cycle to work scheme and I think the budget is £1000.
I want to pay roughly between £800 - £900 for the bike it self and the rest of the budget on accessories (helmet, peddles, shoes etc), I will buy anything else that I need with my own money. The bike will be used for cummuting to work but I also want to take part in events and maybe join a club.
I want something lightweight, carbon forks and a good groupset but most of all something thats going to be comfortable but fast. Most of the brands I have researched on the internet are not sold in my Local bike shops, from the top of my head the brands I can probably pick from are: Cannondale, Claud Butler, Cube, pinarello.
I am sorry I haven't given a great amount of details but thats because I don't know very much about bikes and I don't want to look like a complete fool.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thank you
Paul

Lots of advice and comments can be found on example bikes if you search through the forum for sub £1k machines. Important that as you build up a short list of bikes you ensure you get a test ride before splashing the cash as bike fit and feel is important and can vary between manufacturers even on same size frames.
Cannondale CAAD 10 with 105 groupset or if your C2W scheme covers Halfords the Boardmans are great bikes and great value is where I would suggest but loads of choice out there.Trek Madone 5.9

A good starting place would be the bike reviews on this website.
Just click on the "Bikes & Gear" tab at the top of the page then click on "Bikes". A search window will come up where you can set sliders to the min and max price you are considering. You can set the search criteria to "High-Low" rating for bikes in your price range and have a read at the summary reviews.
That should give you some idea of how to narrow down the options.
One of the top rated bikes in your price range is the KHS Flite 500 which comes in at just under £800 kitted out with Shimano 105 and Mavic CXP 22 wheels - although you can specify Mavic Aksiums if you're willing to pay a bit more.
