Chain wear and re-usable link

My 10 speed KMC chain is measuring 0.5 but not yet 0.75 on Park checker - but - if I measure a section of chain that includes the KMC re-usable link it measures 0.75 worn. Checking around the chain it's definetely the re-usable link that causes the longer measurement. I have never noticed this before - chain has done about 1500 miles - and been checked loads of times but I never noticed if the missing link was included. So I am now wondering:
Is this normal and these links are a bit longer and shouldn't be included when measuring,
Is the re-usable link worn - and if so should I replace it
or is there another answer? Advice much appreciated.

Those gizmos don't work. Measure 12 inches of tensioned chain- on a brand new chain, any two similar points (edge/centre of pins, etc) will line up exactly. At the other extreme, a chain should be retired for the sprockets' sakes at 0.5% worn, which is when that distance is a sixteenth over, easily visible on a cheap rule. Anything inbetween is fine.
There's plenty on this forum and elsewhere explaining why the chain wear gizmos are useless. Use yours to open beer..!0 -
Cheers I know there's questions about chain checkers and a ruler will do the job but what do you think about the reusable link question as ruler still shows chain wear with it in the measured section but none without it? Could it be worn or are they always like that?0

It's only one link in ~100; I wouldn't worry about it. V. unlikely to fail and not enough worn links to cause premature wear on your cassette.- - - - - - - - - -
