Ksyrium Elites, do I need to use rim tape?

Hi guys,

I've just woke up so maybe I'm half asleep (12hour night shifts) and I'm stood admiring my new Ksyrium Elites thinking about what tyres to get for them and I just realized that the rims are smooth on the inside.

Do I need to use rim tape on them? My apologies if this seems a daft question. :?

No you don't. Great wheels. I normally use Vittoria Paves but they are now on my new wheels, I now have Continental Force/Attack with latex tubes on my Elites.

If I remember rightly, you don't - I think that the latest ones are billed as being able to be used without rim tape, thus saving weight.

Great, thanks for that. Would it be worthwhile putting some insulating tape around where the valve goes just to be on the safe side?

I was thinking about Michelin pro 3's as these are only £20 each at CRC.

Yeah - won't hurt at all - whack it on with an inch or so overlap on each side, slice with a shank, thread tube through.

Very good price for a very good set of tyres that is - good work that man.
