Sigma 1609 Computer not calculating miles correctly
Hi, new member here
I have been cycling daily for the last year or so and I bought my sigma BC 1609 computer a while back. I have noticed recently, however, that it is not calculating my mileage correctly at all. It seems that for every 1.5 mile I ride it only says that I have rode 0.3 miles. This is far off and I know that my current mileage on the computer is 86.96 miles which when converted is actually 434.8 miles by basic math. My bike is a store bought Schwinn Tourist which is touted as hybrid bicycle, in other words it has a basic road bike frame and wheels (700 x 28c, 28 - 622, 28 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/8 size), and instead of road bars it just a straight bar setup with a 28 speed Shimano "altus" (knockoff Asian derailleurs) drive system. I know its a crappy bike I only spent about 250.00 on it because I needed something to get to and from the gym/class. Now however I am getting more serious about my cycling and the computer is really starting to irritate me. I just want it to work properly and have tried even changing the wheel size in it but nothing seems to work. So if anyone has any knowledge of this computer and how I could possibly tweak it I would be very thankful. I cannot afford it to still be off when I purchase my new bike here soon.

The sensor is probably not picking up the magnet on the spoke at every pass.
Is it reporting speeds that seem correct?0 -
Honestly it seems a little slow to me, I know the distance is correct as I was in my LBS today and the mech and I went through the manual together and we still couldn't figure it out. He told me I should contact sigma as the unit may be defective. So I am going ahead and doing that.0

If the distance is under by a factor of 5 then the speed should be the same - you'd notice that! If you're trundling along at around walking speed which should be about 3-4mph, what speed is displayed?More problems but still living....0
