The cable pull is significantly different between 7900 shifters and any Shimano road front mech from other series (even 6700 front mech).
However I suspect that with judicious adjustment of the limit screws you can get it to work fine.
Just won't be as smooth as with 7900 front mech, and I would not shift it under load (i.e. changing b/w rings while going up hill).0 -
Thanks, I did read that they are not compatible so I've shelled out a small fortune for a dura ace front mech

I understood that the gear cable pull was the same - it was the brake cable pull which was different ?
(and hence wouldn't affect running the front mech here)0 -
Up untill DA 7800, everything was just fine...0
