Lots of things going on this year, I feel the need to record everything in glorious hi def and archive archive forever and ever and ever... can anyone recommend a decent camcorder? My budget might be a bit restrictive, ideally in the £250 range but the lower the better :-)

I got one of these Sony jobbies. Very pleased, good images, easy to use. Currently £299

Try the Kodak Zx1. Its' a pocket camcorder that is just thicker than a mobile phone. It has a number of different quality settings, HD60, HD, VGA and a still image mode. It is shower proof so great for recording out on the bike in wet weather and you can also get an extra fitting for it. It's the same as the fitting ontop of a tripod, but the bottom of it attached to your handle bars. Right now it's just over £60 on google shopping. Here it is here:

Brilliant cam, I have one. I'd say it's worth more than it costs.
Hope this helped.Carrera TDF 2011 Limited Edition.

Suggesting a Panasonic with CMOS. Records the colours separately with good results. The bad news is that you are entering a world of confusion with regards formats and compatibility. Don't believe me? You'll find out soon enough!!0
