Hi All,
I weight 56kilos and am riding on Mavic CXP22. I am doing the London revolution and other sportives this year and was wondering on your thoughts as to a new wheelset. I was thinking about the Fulcrum 5s? Will I see a advantage? I am on a budget of £200 and to be honest I will mostly be commuting.
Chers,
Dom

At your weight, I would suggest planet x model b. if you can stretch the budget to 250 there are hand built options. I have built a set of open pro at 1570 gramsleft the forum March 20230

I went from CXP 22 of Giant branded Formula hubs to Mavic Ksyrium Equipe, when Merlin had a very good deal on them last year.About 250g lighter, still stiff and noticeably more sprightly.2006 Giant XTC
2010 Giant Defy Advanced
2016 Boardman Pro 29er
2016 Pinnacle Lithium 4
2017 Canondale Supersix Evo0 -

Hard to tell precisely because you could have very light hubs (CXP22 are just the rims, usually built up with OEM branded hubs). However, my experience of CXP22 built wheels is that they are solid, if a little heavy (relatively). If you switch to a wheel that shaves about 500g off the overall weight then the bike will probably feel a little more nimble and responsive...but it won't make it tangibly quicker, IME.
I use my CXP22 based wheels (with 105 hubs) for winter usage and they were fine for me over the last few months. Have swapped to my RS80s now and the bike rolls nicer and feels lively...but the RS80s cost a min of around £350 and am not sure that commuting will get the best value from them before the rims wear out and a costly rebuild ensues.
Ugo gives good advice, as per norm.
Might be worth looking at some nicer tyres just for decent rides, like GP4000s or Ultremo ZX (I am a big fan of both of these but they probably don't give enough protection for commuting). Perhaps get some new wheels with new tyres and swap the sets according to use, if you can be bothered?0
