Rear mech alignment?
Hey guys, i'm sure this will be a very simple one for yo, but it annoyed me on my ride last night so wondering whats the easiest solution.
My Trek has been absolutely fine until recently, when I have suffered 3 punctures in as many rides, which has resulted in the back wheel being in and out more than ever before. Along with taking it out for repair, its been out for getting in the back of the car.
Last night I found that my rear mech is either not indexing quite right, or is bent or something (i just dont know!), meaning that I get a slipping between gears. This is happening when I sit on the middle ring on the front, and am around the 6/7th sprocket on the 9 speed cassette (counting away from the wheel). All other gears appear to hold fine, its just this one area. It appears to slip from 6 to 7, then almost tries to move back, but fails, just reulting in a skipped tooth. There is no damage to the cassette, and before the constant wheel in/wheel out escapades it was fine.
Any ideas?

Before anything else it's best to check if the wheel is correctly positioned in the drop-outs. Check that it is equi-distant from the chain stays. I would then check that the gear hanger is not out of plumb by viewing the rear cage from behind and ensuring that it is exactly below the engaged sprocket. If this is ok then I would reset the cable tension on the rear der. Park Tool has a handy guide on how to do this. Depending upon the age and use of the bike it may be that there is wear on certain sprockets which could mean a new Block and chain.Good luck.0
