Hi all!

I've been looking at buying a fairly basic road bike for a while now but haven't quite committed. I was looking at the Giant defy 4, Specialized allez, Trek 1.2 and some Halfords bike that apparently isn't actually that bad (Carrera I think). I have also been looking at some second hand bikes on ebay such as OCRs.

I'm looking for something suitable for touring, commuting and leisure riding so it needs to be durable and have mud guard eye-lets.

Above all It needs to be good value, hard wearing and easy to maintain.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

I ride the 2012 Defy 1, and the frame is fantastic -> obviously the Defy 4 isn't going to feel quite as nice because of the wheels and group-set but its definitely a solid choice.

Its probably the bike with the geometry most suited to your needs out of the ones you have suggested -> the Allez for example is a race bike so is going to be more aggressive -> and i'm not sure it has mudguard mounts?
