Hi,
I have a tool (big spanner type thing) for fitting the external cups for a Shimano hollowtech crank.
However, I was wondering, would this same tool work on campag external cups?
In other words, are the splines on the cups the same?

thanks
R

I`ve got both Campg U-torque and Shimano hollowtech external cups ; Campag has a chamfered and rounded edge, Shimano is squarer. The Shimano tool does fit Campag buts feels a bit slack on it and given the considerable force required to tighten the cups securely (or remove them) reckon it could slip and permanently damage cup `slots`. Campag tool (a tenner or less) fits over the Campg cups better and has more contact between cups and tool.

Although you may get away with using Shimano wrench i personally would not risk it as damage coudl be expensive to sort out.......... :(:(

The Park Tool one fits like a glove on both, others may differ

Whilst the cup external spline patterns are the same, there are sometimes subtle differences in external chamfers that make it more tricky with socket-type tools e.g. the original Truvativ GXP workshop tool doesn't work with Campagnolo Ultratorque. Best solution is the flat-spanner type tools where you have no problems with chamfers etc.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
