Hi,
Would fitting a older 9 speed chainset work on a newer 10 speed gear system?
I presume the difference is that the chainrings are a bit further apart, but would that really cause too much of an issue?

thanks

9 speed chainrings work with 10 speed. Remember, the only difference is the outside measurement of the chain. The inside is the same, so the chainrings are the same thickness.

    thanks mate.
I was under the impression that with 10 speed chainsets the rings were closer together than on 9 and 8 speed chainsets.
Not sure how much difference that would make to shifting on the front mech though.

    thanks

    It'll work fine.

Even if the rings are marginally further apart, there's no chance at all of the chain falling down between them.
The only difference would be in absolute slickness of change, but that depends on the ramps and pins on the rings which catch the chain and assist it onto the next ring, so it depends how clever the manufacturer was with them.
