Ferrules

Can someone help me please? I am putting cables and outers on my bike build and need to know where the ferrules for the brake and gear cables go. Specifically I have a Campagnolo set which is supplied with 7 ferrules. 6 of these are identical and 1 has a small extension at the end which has the small hole. None of them however fits over a brake cable.

So, have I got all the ferrules I need? Should I have brake cable-specific ferrules? Should I include ferrules at the end of the cables inside the shifters?

Any help would be greatly appreciated by this cable novice.

Thanks

The odd one is where the gear cable fits into the socket on the chain stay - but only if the socket takes that design.

If it's modern MKIII Ultrashift/Powershift cables - you must not put ferrules on the outers where they fit into the ergo shifters. if it's MKII ErgoPower shifters, then you do.

    Full details are here:

All the ferrules (they call them housing ends) you have are for the gear cables. They don't supply ferrules for the brakes as the levers and the calipers don't need them. They say that depending on the frame, you may need to cut the rear brake housing to fit the frame and to use appropriate ferrules to fit them to the frame brake bosses - which are not supplied as part of the kit.

When I built my bike - I had to get a couple of ferrules from the LBS for this, they're just bog standard ferrules (6mm it says). Also, for some reason, neither the odd 'step down' ferrule or the regular ferrule would fit in the chain stay gear cable boss properly, but one of those cheap plastic 6mm ferrules fitted fine.

Brake ferrules are slightly bigger than gear ferrules because brake cables/outers are wider than gear cables/outers. You'll know if you're trying to use a gear ferru;leon a brake cable as teh cable won't fit in.

I tend to use plastic ferrules all round (you can get metal ones) for fear of everything seizing together, but that may just be me being massively paranoid.
