Howdy all,
My first post on here (couldn't find aN intro section so hope this is ok), a few simple questions really but since the start of the year I've got back into riding (since I brought the bikes 2 1/2 years back lol) and really enjoying it.
I ride a Saracen mantra DX which is ok for me at the minute but hopefully will get to change it this year, but in the mean time I'm looking to upgrade the brakes to hydraulic ones, I haven't got a budget set in mind but how realistic would it be to do both for around the £130 mark?
Also I've made a little mistake, I brought some of these http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Mode ... elID=55369 and didn't realise they were spd pedals - I know it cleary states it though  lol, but I ride with flat pedals so I'm guessing these aren't any use to me and I should send them back? It's just that they feel really comfy and the sole does fell very grippy, but I don't want to take them out on a ride to try them and find there no good for flats and not be able to send them back after I've used them.
So I think that's it for now but you'll probably see me posting abit now
Thanks in advance for any help

hi welcome to the fold...
first off if you can send the shoes back that would probably be the best bet.. they may be ok on flats but it would be a gamble.. you could try some cheap spd pedals and turn to the dark side and ride clipeed in...
as for brakes
these come highly recomended and score good reviews and are well within your budget.
these slightly dearer and slightly betterwww.bearbackbiking.com

Didn't know £170 brakes were 'well within' a £130 budget but yeah they're good brakes.0

Thanks for the links with the brakes, I'll have to see whether I'd stretch to that amount on my bike or wait a while and change bikes.
Plus, Ill admit yesterday I went for a quick ride and used the shoes and they were great, really comfy and loads of grip, but I have been thinking of changing to clip in pedals0 -
I paid roughly £140 (inc P+P) for my XT brakes from Rose so not far off budget. The SLX can be had for about £120 from there. Of course that is sticking with your existing rotors and you'll need to swap the hoses over but that was simple enough.0

The shoes you show should come with a blanking plate over the spd connection (ie where the cleats should be attached) allowing them to be used with flat pedals. I have the ladies version.0

Yeah they have got a cover/plate over them which I thought would of allowed them to be used with flat's which they did when I used them the weekend I had no problems at all0

£130 should get you a set of Shimano SLX or Formula Oro brakes- both excellent. I prefer the feel of the Oros and their better parts availability but I think overall the SLXs are probably better.
I would return the shoes.Uncompromising extremist0
