Have problems with my CX bike's brakes. They are Tektro wide pulls connected via a bridge to the cable but I cannot seem to generate any sort of decent braking force, my road bike Tiagra brakes are better. There is also almost no tension in the cables despite what I try...Any tips?

Using Clarks brake pads, soft compound (red).

There's some good tech features on Cyclocross World re setting-up cantis - it's a bit of a black art in terms of getting the straddle wire length and angles correct. A lot also depends on things like cable runs, the choice of cable hanger and brake pads. Set-up corectly, cantis can be as powerful as any rim brake.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
