Ever had a dodgy new tyre?

I decided to replace the Maxxis Detonators on my my commuter with something a little more puncture friendly and bought a couple of Marathon Originals. The one on the rear wheel seemed fine, but the front one popped off twice, thankfully not underway, bursting 2 inner tubes (not at he same time!). It could have been the rim, but I shifted the rear tyre to the front, with ear defenders and goggles, and it seemed fine. I got a replacement from Wiggle (their fault. I know) and both wheels are fine, so it must have been the tyre, even though there wasn't anything obviously wrong. It was a bit misshapen new, but nothing I haven't seen in other new tyres. I've put it down to the tyre and rim being at opposite ends of their respective tolerances, but just wondered if it's a common occurrence? I've now gone back to wincing very time the pump gets towards 100 psi!

If it's a wire bead tyre then the bead can be a bit vulnerable to getting kinks if the tyre is folded.

Yes I had a conti grand prix that no matter how carefully I fitted it, ended up with a bulge and a low spot. Shop exchanged it without question so I guess sometimes the QC fails and bad ones get to the shelves.

Surprised you had a problem with a marathon coming off though... They don't go on or come off easily in my experience, usually requiring some brute force and swearing.

It was beaded and hadn't been folded as far as I could tell. I gave it a good eyeballing and feel along both edges as I secretly thought my unbranded Boardman rim might have been the problem. The fact that the second one stayed on and so has the replacement must mean there was something just not quite right with the tyre.

actullay I have had 2 dodgy tyres..
1 Michelin tyre was flat spotted and actullay had holes in it, CRC gave me a credit. I bought another from them a Hutchinson this time and it went all hairy done one side, this time they wanted it returned but I had ridden a whole summer on it and couldnt be bothered so replaced it with a Conti, so far so good.
