where did you get the Canyon chain guide from and how easy was it to fit? I've got the Nerve 8.0X with the standard Sram 2x10 chainring/bashguard set-up, would it work with that?

I got the chain guide from Canyon

I cant see why it wouldnt fit with the SRAM crankset on the 8x. The Strive ESX9 SL has a SRAM 2x10 crankset with a bash and it also comes with the Canyon chain guide

Here's the bike after a quick clean

I wanted one of them chainguides before i had even bought my bike, but to tell the truth, I can't remember my chain ever coming off on my 8.0x. You might not need a chain guide...

It's been a while since I last updated this.

As you can see from the pics I have been fairly busy. The bike now has a CTD rear shock and an RLC (instead of RL) Talas fork. I've also changed the brakes from the Magura MT4's to Shimano XT's with Ice Tech rotors, then I changed the chainrings from 26/38 XT's to 24/36 Raceface Turbines.

I've pretty much got the bike exactly as I want it now so I cant see there being any more changes in future

Looking really good. Are you happy with your gear ratios now? I'm running 24-32 at the moment (i.e. just lost the outer ring for the bash). 24-36 sounds like a better option as I just run out of gears on some fast downhills.

Have you got rid of the old brakes? I crashed mine and damage the rear lever, not completely but I reckon it may die eventually. I can get the spares but a lever (just the lever, not the assembly) is the best part of £20. Might be interested in your rear brake if you have no need for it. I was looking at getting XT brakes, but I feel the Maguras do the trick at the moment.

Thanks. Yeah the ratios seem to be spot on now, I was down at Glentress the other day and most of the time I managed to keep it in the big ring, I didn't spin out at all, not even on a fire road decent, but then again I was knackered by that point so wasn't putting in full effort. It was also good knowing I still had the little ring for those rare occasions where I needed it.

I still have my front MT2/4 brake, the rear one was sent back to Magura for a warranty replacement (they replaced it with a full MT4 system). I also have a full MT4 system. The good thing about the Magura MT system is that you can turn the lever upside down and use it on the other side as they are not left and right specific.
