I have been upgrading my Trek 1.5 to Ultegra but when fitting the brake calipers i can't seem to get them to fit properly as the pads do not line up with the rims. i know that the drop is 39-49 mm but it seems to short and there is no option of a longer drop. Am i doing something wrong or are ultegra calipers not compatible with my bike?

The pics of your bike on the Trek website do look like there is a lot of clearance, therefore I suspect that your standard callipers are indeed long drop. The specs dont confirm this however.

You cant get a long drop Ultegra, but you can get a Shimano non-series BR-R600. These are Ultegra grade, and look very similar to 6600. Should suit your needs.

It sounds like you need long drop and Ultegra do not do a long drop, however you can get a long drop equivalent of Ultegra (its called something catchy like a R15342 - have a look a few posts down on here and someone talks about it).

I am in the process of ordering a long drop rear for the winter bike and CRC have the Shimano one at something like £18 for the rear or Tektro (just as good as Shimano for this sort of thing) at a reduced price of £25 for the pair. Both available in black so 2mph more top end.
