Headset Race Removal Force?

I am trying to replace my headset.
Forks and old bearings removed no problem.
I am now at the stage of removing the races. I have the proper tool and it inserts snugly.
I have been hitting it fairly hard with a rubber mallet but I am fearing for my bike stand.
Is it simply a case of manning up or is there a risk of it being seized?

Tips or any helpful advice would be appreciated.

Usually takes a firm knock to 'crack' the joint - rubber mallet might be too 'soft' i.e. absorbing the blow
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

The bigger and the harder the tool the better. And have a catcher present.

Okay. Proper hammer to be used next time but I don't have one at this location.
Oh well, a week of drinking beer and watching movies till I pick up the "real" hammer.

I don't care where the old race ends up but the tool could make a mess of the wooden flooring. Thanks for the heads up.
    Cheers!

Using a "proper" hammer worked! Thanks. :P
