Hi

I am looking to spend about 2-2.5k on a road bike. Currently have a 2008 Allez but want to upgrade.

Main requirements:
- Fast - I like to ride fast so looking for something which will make the most of my power
- Good climber - I am quite light for my height, so looking for something thats light and climbs well
- Comfortable - I often ride on rough country roads, so want something that wont make my teeth fall out

I already have a set of dura-ace wheels, so not so concerned with the wheels.

I have so far considered:
- cannondale super six
- canyon ultimate CF

Does anyone else have any ideas/experiences to help me out?

Thanks

Do a search. Questions like this are asked a lot.

Luckily you'll get many different recommendations which will bamboozle the heck out of you!

I'd personally go round a few shops, try a few out, and see what fits and rides right.

Works for me on all three counts. Love it, in fact. I don't normally do love-of-things, but I've made an exception in this case.

I was go say that, but as I have one it falls under the 'you're only recommending it because you have one' banner.

  • To those with a caonndale super six or canyon ultimate, how do they perform over rough roads?

Actually sod it. The Cervelo R3 is perfect for what you want.

  • When I was in your position a couple of years ago I went to Epic cycles and got fitted and test rode a number of their bikes. You can't expect to spend that much money and just get what you want from people voicing opinions.

At the time I had a good idea what I wanted. Yet after test riding came away with a bike I had completely ignored. You need to go and feel the different ride characteristics yourself.
I never thought that I had the riding knowledge to know the difference, but you really can tell the difference and quickly work out which one suits you best.
Bianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!
I RIDE A KONA CADABRA -would you like to come and have a play with my magic link?
  • Head to Epic cycles if you can, ask their advice and see what you like the look of.

They run cannondale and Scott demo's.

I'm collecting a Scott Foil 20 from them next week and couldn't be happier with their service.

Frame design and construction determine comfort and handling - the speed and climbing bit is down to the rider ;-)
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Whilst you're at it, check out the Kuota's. A Kebel would be within your range and no, I haven't got one (I wish).
  • The canyon ultimate is a very good bike, high spec for your money. It is nice to ride - light & stiff, comfortable over uneven roads. I was going to get a supersix but cannondale can't make them & deliver them to the UK with any guarantee on dates.
