Hi all,

I am looking to get a front mech for a triple with 52-39-30 and a 34.9mm seat tube. I can get a Sora 3403 but it says the max it can take is a 50t and a 20t difference. Would it do the job or is the difference too much?

Many thanks

I think you should be fine - 2 teeth shouldn't make a massive amount of difference to the overall diameter of the chainring. I hope it works anyway, since I've just done much the same thing!

Will do. It's getting built up this weekend, hangover willing. 8)

The Ultegra 6703 front mech will work and can handle 22teeth difference.

As the 52 will be bigger than the spec it might mean you will have to lift the DR slightly in the slot. You will also find that the cage will be closer to the chainring at the back than at the front.

In general I think you can use DRs out of spec, I've used a double FD on a triple chainring quite happily.

:D That took a little longer than expected, but it works just fine! 8)

Excellent, well thanks for taking the risk so that others don't have to! :-)
