Hi

Been checking out new road bikes with a price range between £1,800 to £2,200.

Researched Trek, Specialised, Giant, Lapierre and Cannondale and value for money why wouldn't you go with the Cube Brand? The Agree GTC has full Ultegra with Easton EA50 wheels, all for £1,800, the next model up the SL has a mixture of Dura Ace and FSA and comes in at £2,200. It has a Matt black paint finish, looks sweet...

Am I missing something?

  • Trekster......if you're looking for confirmation....CONFIRMED!
Have spent several months looking at all options - as you have - for around £2k and cant come up with anything better than the GTC Race 2012 with full Ultegra kit for £1800. Rode one this morning and it is stunning - although I'd change the saddle, the factory supplied Sella tried to change my gender - if you're big like me (100kgs) recomend a Sella Italia max flight gel put on instead.
have placed my order and it arrives in March, cant wait.

Another confirmed here  , mine arrives in a couple of weeks.
  • Nice one Guys...

I'm tempted by the SL, checked it out at Cycle Surgery last weekend. That said the spec on the Race looks excellent so it's going to be a tough decision. The Race looks fast....
  • Out of interest what frame size did you guys go for, I've read the sizes are a bit strange? I'm 6 ft 1 and heard 60cms and 62cms will fit...

I'm 5'11 and test rode the 56cm which fitted but was I felt too small, bar and stem would need to change and having looked at the differences between the 56/58cm the 58 should be better sized out of the box. Bars and stem 'may' need to change but I won't know that until it arrives and I get fitted to it.

Only 2 weeks to go :D

I assume that you are aware that the SL is an aluminium frame?

I think he means this model.

  • I'm glad someone posted this - I was just about to start a similar thread myself. I'm looking at spending between £1500 and £1800 and the shortlist has come down to the Cube Agree GTC race (ideally) or Pro, the Ridley Orion. I have also considered Boardman, Planet X, Ribble etc. - there is too much choice!

I went to see the carbon SL yesterday - beautiful! I sat on a 53 and I'm 5'10" with a 30" inside leg and that felt right.. I think the 56 may be ok for me but I would want to try it first. I tried a Ridley medium and it was way to big for me - measures up at 56.5 but the geometry on the small (54.5) is virtually the same as the 56 Cube.

They are the same price spec for spec but the Race comes with the better wheels as the £1800 price point. Decision, decisions..

Anyone had any experience of the Ridley?
  • I'm seriously looking at the Cube too. Had a Trek 1.5 for a few years and have a serious case of bike lust!

Have always had a hankering for a Cannondale but it seems I'd be paying a lot more to get something with a similar spec to the Cube. Problem I've got is my local Cube dealer doesn't have a 53 for me to try. Where did you try it out, I might need to travel further afield.
  • I went to Cyclexperience in Christchurch - really nice guys in there too. They tell me the Race and Pro are expected in March.

Trekster....I'm 6'2" and have ordered a 60cm which seemed perfect - althought having a proper bike fit when it arrives in couple of weeks - but cant see too much being altered.
  • I've ordered mine in 56cm despite trying a 53cm last week - the 56 is a bt longer and fits me better at 5'10" - pick it up next weekend woo hoo!
  • I collected my new Agree GTC Race this afternoon - what a nice bike to ride! Well happy. The 56 seems fine for me at 5'10" with a 30" inside leg - I'm a bit lardy, so will have to wait to drop some pounds before I can get the stem much lower than stock..

I bought the 2010 Agree SL (Top Spec Alloy) on sale in Jan 2011. Riding time amounts to over half the year. After riding it for this long and 3k+ kms I can only envy you all with your new GTC SLs!

I got my Cube GTC race end of Jan, 2011 model with £400 off which seemed good to me. I think the 2012 versions are still pretty hard to come by. I tried sitting on a few bikes but the 58" Cube seemed perfect. I seemed to be in between on one or two other bikes I'd tried e.g. Trek.

It's my first road bike so for all I know it might be rubbish but I love it. It took me a ride to get used to the light front end but now it gives me a real feeling of confidence. The ride seems really smooth, I was surprised at how well it copes with pot holes and I'm finding I can swoop round corners faster than I ever believed possible. I'm 53 this month and not the most flexible of people so the less aggressive geometry works really well with no problem spending time in the drops. The 28 cog is appreciated going up long Peak District climbs. It is almost silent riding a long, just a low rumble from the tyres. Longest ride so far is 43 miles with 4000' of ascent, finished with wobbly thighs but otherwise ache and pain free.

One of my best ever buys!

Just been into the LBS and been told that my bike is delayed by at least 4-5wks
  • Picked my Cube Agree GTC Race 2012 up just over a week ago and it is a joy to ride. After test riding a few otehr bikes in this price range nothing came close to the Cube for me. It is lightweight but offers a fantastic power transfer resulting in a nice fast ride.

The gear changes are very slick and quiet and while it might not be the most important factor it looks AMAZING.

After a couple of 50 mie rides the only downside I have found is the saddle isn't very forgiving.

Worth every penny in my opinion

I'm another who picked up the 2011 version of the Agree GTC Race at the beginning of October 2011 with a hefty discount from the RRP. Well pleased with it. Stunning looking bike.

I'm 6ft, 15st and the 58cm frame is spot on for me. The 56cm was too small.

Hi, I'm thinking of upgrading my Trek 1.7 to the cube Agree GTC Race 2012 - how are you getting on with it since you got it?
  • i have a 2011 agree GTC race, I love it (short fast rides and century plus)
went in to buy a bianchi and bought the cube after test rides
mines full ultegra fulcrum 5's and easton forks (i believe the 2012 has own brand forks and easton wheels, slightly heavier than the 2011 set up_ i have seen the 2011's for about 1500 now if you shop around and aren't bothered about having the new paint job)

if you can stretch a do kick myself for not stretching to the £2100 SL dura ace

having said that best £1800 i spent last year on the gtc race

I finally went for the 2012 Race and it's sweet...well pleased.

Was going to stretch to the SL but there are simply none left in the UK. The Cubes come up pretty small and the 60cm frame that I needed are like hens teeth!

I live in Northern Ireland and can't find one anywhere to test ride - I ride a 58 Trek at the moment and just wondering whether I should just order a 58 Cube online and hope for the best?

    I had a 58 Trek but went for a 60 Cube. I'm 6'2 with a 34" inside leg

Thanks CalumR - I'm 5'11 and 34" leg - always wondered if the 58 Trek was little too big for me. Difficult to know without testing it I guess...

I have the same measurements as CalumR and the 60 frame was the right choice over the 58.
