I have some time to cancel my order, 40Mb d/load for £18 pcm there has to be a catch somewhere....

    I wish I had the option of Infinity.
    My standard BT broadband is currently maxing out at 2mb :cry:

    I'm sure it can't be true as it's not been around for that long, but it feels like our area's been on the "coming next year" list for about 3 years.

    In much the same way that all the mobile coverage maps (and this is absolutely true) have shown us as "good coverage next year" for at least 4 years.

    Same here. Utterly frustrating watching videos or iplayer when it won't play smoothly.

    Go for it, I pay £26 pcm for Infinity and I live in a village on the outskirts of a small town. I used to get 5Mb/s, now I'm getting 33Mb/s download and 8Mb/s upload. It's excellent.

    iPlayer never buffers, even on HQ, uploading files is faster than downloading used to be and I just downloaded a Sufferfest DVD in less than 40 minutes. :D

    The best bit (although it doesn't help you) is that I work from home and claim the cost back from my employer - so it doesn't cost me a penny. :D:D

    I've just got the chance to get it in my village but heard bad stories about BT throttling speeds on p2p connections (inc Skype) - plusnet is also bt give exactly the same service but they don't throttle anything so much better I think. google and all shall be revealed ....

    38mb+ download speed and around 9mp upload speed. So much faster than any other domestic ISP that I've used.
    No problems with throttling and I Skype quite a lot as well as downloading/streaming media.

    Caution

    The service is pretty poor in my experience.

    Pre-sales, installation, faults and queries, billing - have all been difficult.

    This may be a case of my overly high expectations, but don't say I didn't warn you! Truth is I looked for a competitor and took advice and most are jsut as bad as each other. Whilst I have heard good stuff about vigin media, I am sure someone on here has heard quite the opposite, so pinch of salt at the ready...

    I googled BT Infinity Great ad BT Infinity Sh1t and decided to cancel my order. OK I know more people would complain than praise, but there were a lot of complaints, plus I am having difficulties extricating myself from a rolling contract with current ISP that I didn't know I had signed up to. Other friends have recommended Virgin, who allegedly have a 100Mb service in the pipeline (sorry).

    I can't get Infinity or cable. For some reason Cabletel as it was then only did the centre of Newport, centre of Cardiff and Cwmbran. For some reason the western valley has cable going back historically to the 80s. I live a couple of miles outside Newport and I'm stuck at 8mb broadband. It's alright for most things as I don't do a lot of streaming or downloading but would be nice to have something faster for gaming.

    once you've used big download speeds you won't look back...


    i've got 60mbps down and 20mbps up at uni.. returning to 5mbps down at home is painful.

    I'm in a non cabled area and am limited to 2Mb. For years i've endured work colleagues, family and friends who have broadband way above what I could dream of. Infinity is my only hope and i've been watching the go-live date for my exchange slip back and back as others have been completed (often a cabled or area FFS!).

    Coming back from a ride yesterday I noticed this on the ground next to my cabinet:

    tbh I can put up with a bit of a faff to get it installed, they dont have to pretend to be my best buddy on the phone as I dont care! Simply having the option to improve my broadband is a godsend, no matter how it arrives.

    That spray paint marking is for the position of your new fibre cabinet,which means it will be getting put up soon,then its just the cabling that's required.....

    And yes i work for BT..

    I don't know what reviews SteveR was reading but there was an issue with the BT Infinity modem (the white box) that they install in your house. Mine went faulty 2 weeks after being installed. BT sent an engineer within 48 hours and swapped the box. They have now fixed the problems and have a programme of swapping all the existing modems out for shiny new ones.

    I've had my BT Infinity for 12 months now and I couldn't be happier. The only issue that I've had was fixed within 48 hours by a simple swap out - and those teething problems have now been identified and fixed.

    And no, I don't work for BT.

    I'm with Sky who have apparently just started offering the Infinity product, ie, FTTC. Infinity is the BT name for it, but other ISPs are able to plug into the fibre should they have equipment at the exchange..basically. By the time i'm up and running FTTC wise which is likely to be a few months off anyway i'd imagine Sky will be well geared upwith it as well.

    In a nutshell, Sky dont throttle or limit their 'unlimited' users. Unlike BT and most other ISPs, not sure about Plusnet

    I asked plusnet specifically about this as my only reason for changing would be for better q Skype video calls (plusnet are the only current alternative to BT for fibreoptic cabled access in my area - Sky don't have the access [yet??]) and plusnet said they don't throttle any traffic at all and prioritise p2p - it also says that on their web site - so as plusnet is BT ...

    Have Plusnet been bought by BT? As it is all the fibre products offered by ISPs barring Virgin cable will be via BTs fibre rollout. BT call it Infinity, but thats just their product name. Ultimately the likes of Plusnet (and Sky) will just pay BT to use their infrastructure then provide their own service on top. this is how I see it anyway

    Sky, as I understand it, are currently offering the product to existing customers who have registered an interest in readiness for a full product rollout circa April.
