Miche Cassette experiences?

I'm upgrading the transmission on my bespoke audax bike from Campag Veloce 8-spd to 10-spd. I used to run a 12-30 cassette with a 48/34 compact chainset. The nearest I can find in 10-spd is the Miche 12-29 so I ordered such from Evans.
The box of bits arrived but has been returned as it was a 13-29. Notwithstanding that, the box comprised 10 sprockets, 1 lockring and 7 spacers. Now, the smallest sprocket is flanged, so doesn't need a spacer, so by my reckoning, there should have been 8 spacers. The curious thing is that the biggest sprocket had lugs (that match the freebody spline) that were bent outwards, offset from the flat towards the next sprocket. If the 29t was stacked next to the next sprocket with no spacer, then the spacing was closer than the other sprockets (with flat lugs) stacked with their spacers. But if a spacer was added between the 29t and the next, the spacing was larger than the rest.
Does anyone have any clue as to what the story is here? Needless to say there were no instructions/contents list with the cassette.

Can't say i'd studied them before, but just looked at my old spare...the largest sprocket does indeed have those bent lugs on the largest sprocket. Not sure if its my original Miche or a later replacement Veloce, but angled lugs there are...
Did the box look as if it'd been opened ? returned item perhaps.0 -
That is a possibility. It looked as if the parts should have been assembled on a plastic replica freehub, but it was just a dog's breakfast of separate bits. We'll see what the replacement looks like. Curiously, Evans don't even feature a 13-29 as an option on their stock list, so maybe a distributor error.Cheers,

Hi,
I've just been looking at Campag rear mech specifications on another thread - then read this one. I though I would highlight something I read.
If you're upgrading to a 'new logo' 2011/12 Veloce rear mech, then the max sprocket size is 29 and the min is 11. However, for a short cage rear mech, the max difference between the two extremes is 16 (eg. 13-29). So, officially, a 12-29 is out of range for it. See http://www.campagnolo.com/repository/documenti/en/2012_COMPONENTS_TECHNICAL_MANUAL_UK.pdf page 75. According to the tech specs, you would need a medium-cage Veloce rear mech.
Also, are you upgrading the chainset too? I assume you are as you might have issues running a 10-speed ultra-slim chain on 8-speed rings and front-mech due to chain width, distance between rings and ramping.0 -
Final note for the benefit of future thread searchers: replacement (correct) cassette arrived and it does indeed have 8 spacers. The 'bent' tabs on the big sprocket have no affect as they sit inside the i.d. of the spacer. I'm guessing that they are bent away from the hub to ensure that they don't interfere with the seating of the big sprocket against the inboard flange of the freehub.Cheers,
