I'm thinking of converting my winter bike to Campag to match my summer steed.

Am I right in thinking I'll need shifters, brakes and a front and rear mech? The chainset can stay can't it?

your chainset will be fine. You don't need new brakes either, and your front mech would probably work too.

You'll also need to change the cassette over, and hence wheels / freewheel may need considering

if you want to keep the existing rear wheel/freehub and cassette until they are worn out and need replacing, you could use a 'shiftmate' so that the shimano cassette will work with the campag setup. Then, when you get a new campag-style wheel, you can loose the shiftmate.

  • Shiftmate is an option, but it's ugly, a neater solution is to keep your wheels and get an Ambrosio Campagnolo spaced, Shimano splined cassette, 30 quid or so... of course it is only possible if you go for Campagnolo 10 speed (Veloce or Centaur)... with 11 speed you need the Campag freehub

Sorted for wheels, thanks. It's just the other components I was unsure of.

As others have said, shifters & rear mech only, Campag cassette on your new wheels.

Front mech, brakes, chainset will be fine
