I have just purchased a 2011 Colnago Ace and intend on replacing components with a new sram groupset but having trouble identifying what type of bottom bracket i need for frame (bb40,english,italian etc). The Crankset that is already on i think is an FSA Gossamer mega exo with integrated bb but that doesnt mean anything to me i'm afraid.

If anyone knows exactly what type of bb i need for this frame or know a way how i can identify it myself, that would be great.
no pain... sounds good to me

Gossamer chainset will work with FSA MegaExo of Shimano Hollowtech 2 - as frame is Taiwanese-built, would hazard a guess that it is English threaded. If you measure the external width of the BB shell - 68mm is English whereas Italian is 70mm. If there's no thread at all, it's press-fit.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • If you are using Sram cranks a standard english thread GXP BB is what you need, about £30 are far better than the FSA it came with
  • I have since bought and installed BB so i can confirm as others suggested it was an external type with english thread 68mm wide shell. I in fact used a SRAM Force GXP screw in type BB.
