I'm looking for a Budget long sleeve winter jersey as its quite mild here and i'm itching to get out riding but I only have summer gear.

Search has thrown up the DHB Core S which looks good but wondering if anyone has any suggestions for others or knows of any online sales with good stuff in?

Looking to spend upto about £40 ( Skint after Christmas! )

Will need a 46" chest

Thanks

DHB is good. On-one do some good merino base layers to go underneath, with really completes the setup - and also do a merino long sleeve Jersey I think. If you have a Decathlon near you, they have some discounted winter shells & jerseys - dont look as good as the DHB stuff to my mind, though. Tenn Outdoors do some good & really cheap stuff, but the size/shape of some of the jerseys has been bizarre, others OK.

See another thread regarding the Mavic Espoire - loads available at good prices online and a decent, well made jersey for the cash.

DHB's are good (initially). The reason I no longer have any long sleeve jerseys, and need some is that my two DHB long sleeve jerseys have both split around the bottom of the zip. I repaired them once but they've gone in the same place. I think it's a weak spot when you're putting the jerseys on.

Aldi might be worth a visit. Any kit I've bought from there has been spot on, not tried the jerseys myself but they get some positive posts on here. My local store is all out of cycling kit.

There's some good deals around at the moment so some mid range /high end stuff might come into your budget.

    Thanks for the quick replies.

Time for some more online hunting later.

    Found this earlier:

Looks good to me, anyone use one?

    Thanks again all

  • It depends what you're after. I'm a fan of quite "loud" jerseys but they tend to be a bit pricier. You can easily pick up some cheap jerseys which are single colours quite easily. If you're not in a hurry wait for the next cycle special at aldi/lidl.

I know this is more than you've budgeted for but my mate's got a zelo jersey and loves it. They are fleece lined and he says they keep him warm but he still wears a base layer or two underneath on the coldest of days.

As it's payday I just treated myself to a short sleeve jersey last night. I bought the tetris style jersey for nostalgia purposes. :D

All Gore stuff is good but also look at Torm.

For £50 you get a Sportwool long sleeve top that is surprisingly good for the money. indistinguishable quality from my Rapha tops at about half the price (pockets are an 'interesting design' though)

  • Have a look at www.prendas.co.uk as they have a few jerseys in your size and bidget.
    Santini stuff is pretty good.

  • I've just received one of the Tenn Winter Weight long sleeve jerseys in the post. I've not used it yet but it seems very... jersey-like from first impressions.

For that price it will serve as a backup jersey if nothing else.
Also bought a gilet for £12 or something, if they work well then I'll definitely grab some more stuff from Tenn. Other forum users have recommended them.

Delivery was free and very quick. Enjoy.

I suspect you will sweat inside the gilet - I always go for ones with a mesh back and/or sides.

These Funkier Jerseys are really good though, and a superb price http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop ... FUN-LS.htm

Good warmth, really well made and great shape. I just bought 4 of them!

have a look on ebay at campagnolo jackets. absolute cycles are shifting loads of £150 plus jackets and they're going for under £50 in most auctions. my dad just got one and its spot on. don't forget to go one size up though

In case anyone's still after value-for-money winter jacket recommendations, I've recently got this one from Decathlon http://www.decathlon.co.uk/membrane-jacket-5-black-id_8181420.html and it's very good indeed. Very nice snug fit, very ''cycling'' shaped. Worn it when the temperature's been just above freezing with just a long sleeve base layer underneath and was toasty warm. Also, mine's a lairy red colour which is pretty good for being seen.
