Replacement frame size dilema

I currently have a 54cm Tarmac Comp from 2010 and having upgraded the wheels along with most of the drivetrain to Dura-Ace over the last few months I fancied a new frame (mostly because of colour and finish in all honesty but that's a need in my vocabulary) to a brand new SL3 I've seen advertised relatively cheaply.

I've always felt a tad extended/hunched on the 54 which I suspect is down to flexibility, or lack of it! (I flipped the stem in the end but don't like the way it looks). When I spoke to some guys at Sigma Sport at the bike show at NEC last year, they said that if I was more of a casual/sportive type rider then they'd most likely put me on a 56cm rather than a 54cm as the slightly larger frame has a 20mm taller head tube. Thus when the saddle was at correct height, I'd be less hunched over and therefore more comfortable - does this tally with the general consensus of opinion on here?

I am 5' 10" and my inside leg is 30".

Sounds like good advice, i'm the same height with a 31" inside leg and fall completely in the middle size wise for 54-56cm very few manufacturers make 55cm bikes. I have three 56cm bikes and one 54cm as well as one 52cm (sloping geometry) so 54cm, they all fit.

    I'm the same height 5ft 10 with a regular inside leg and ride a 58 Trek 2.5.

Was measured on a jig and the bike fits like a glove, all day riding comfort of over 50 miles without any discomfort.
