Just on the look out for some new brakes and I came across these http://www.on-one.co.uk/i/q/BCPXFOR/pla ... e_calipers . I'm torn between these and some ultegra 6700's to match the rest of my groupset. They seem to get good reviews but just wanted to see if anyone here has had any experience with them.

  • I would pay out the extra money and go for the Shimanos.. Planet x are light but they are`nt as strong in the stopping department.

I've got some of the Planet X forged brakes. Never thought they were in any way underpowered. And they look way better than Shimano brakes.
    More problems but still living....

What rims are you using them on ? I guess we all have different feel on modulation.

Alloy and carbon. Like I said, never felt underpowered so I'd recommend them.

Im using them, on Aksyium rim's and they stop all 85kg of me easily, better than the 105 they replaced, they even come with green swiss stops
    Cotic Soul
    Pearson Hanzo
    Airborne Zeppelin
  • What's the setting up of them like? I've read that thy can be a bit fiddly to get right
  • I bought a CNC for the front of my Izoard and a forged for the back. They're a damn site better than the Miche brakes that came with the bike.

These brakes you linked to are 1:3 cable pull, and 6700 and 7900 use 1:4 cable pull, so whilst they will work in terms of compatibility, you will be pulling the brake lever further towards the handlebar to achieve the same stopping power.

TRP are the only company I can think of (off the top of my head) that have a set of aftermarket brakes that is designed for 1:4 ratio but I suspect these would be above your budget

i found them fiddly and not powerful say compared to ultegra or DA but on a par with 105, look nice though.
