I'm after some tan walled clinchers for my bike build but don't want to spend to much, say £20 each tops. I thought i found Michelin Lithion 11's on Ribble that looked like they were tan waled but they only had one, however these would of been perfect.

Tyre's need to be for everyday use and circa 220g etc and puncture resistant, comfy.

Tan wall tyres or "Gum" wall tyres as their gen known are usually a bit on the expensive side tho Panaracer do a tyre around about the £20 mark. Vittoria & Veloflex make the tan wall tyres but are about the £30 + mark

    http://www.planet-x-bikes.co.uk/i/q/TYC ... bular_tyre.

These tires are sick, they are most probably one of the best tires I have ever used, but they don't last for that long, I get around 2500 miles out of a pair, but for twenty squid, they are worth every penny.

These look good however they only £20 in black, which are sold out. £30 a piece for the 'gum' colour.

Thanks for the tip... I've ordered a pair... they look 100% the same as the Vittoria... I am positive they are the same tyre, just branded differently.
The Vittoria are amazing (for good roads)

Now there is a thing I have learned. So what is the distinction between a non open tubular clincher and an open tubular clincher?

They're just called open tubulars, they are the open version of the tubular tyre... Vittoria does the same with the OPEN Pro series, essentially they take a succesful tubular, they make the clincher version and call it open tubular... just adds up to the confusion, I guess.
That also makes me think that these are Vittoria Open in disguise

Cheers for that. Of course, you'd think they would just cover this by calling them eg Vittoria Blah Tubular and the Vittoria Blah clincher or even the Vittoria Clincher Blah. But then it doesn't sound so cool - like you have tubs even when you don't!

I'm about to embark on a retro build and have searched high and low for the right gum wall tyres. It was going to be the Panaracer Pasella for a long time but then I came across the PX deal on the Challenge Forte open tubulars. I've just ordered a pair and they'll be going on a pair of Ambrosio Excellight rims (28H) built on Novatec hubs (handbuilt by Harry Rowland). Assuming delivery goes according to plan I could post up a pic early next week.
