Rockhopper fork lockout

Hello,
I recently bought a 2011 Rockhopper.
It has a fork lockout but even with the forks locked out there is still a fare bit of give, less so than when the forks are 'open' but it still bounces up and down a bit if you stand up to pedal up a hill.
I just wanted to ask if this is normal for these forks?
I did sit on a Hardrock and a Trek 4300 whilst in the shop and those forks seemed to have a more solid lockout.
I think it may be something to do with hydraulic as opposed to mechanical lockout, but just wanted to check for sure before embarrassing myself by taking the bike back to the shop!!
Any advice from those who know much appreciated.
Cheers

And the forks are?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

The forks are:
SR Suntour SF11-XCR-DS-26-LO-SP, 80mm, 1 piece alloy lower, 30mm steel stanchions, hydraulic damping with mic-tuned spike valve and lockout0 -
Most have a bit of give to aid traction.0
