Triple > Double, Adjusting end stops?

My bike came fitted with a triple chainset, am i right in thinking i can fit a compact and adjust the end stops to only allow for the two chain rings?

yes it's usually fine, a triple shifter won't be quite as good as a double one with trim positions, but in practice it's perfectly usable, i've done it myself

you may also need to adjust the front mech position
