I am in the process of setting up my bike with 2008 Campag Record 10, replacing the existing Centaur, having bought various bits and pieces over the last few months.

I have set the rear mech but have a question regarding the setting of the front mech. I have set the H and L screws and the gear change works but when pressing the thumb shift to change from the large chainring to small the thumb shift clicks through 4-5 times before the front mech reaches its final position and I was wondering if I have set it up correctly. My Centaur thumb shift would click twice before the front mech reached its final position against the L stop so just want to check with anyone running 2008 Record 10 that I have done it correctly.

Thanks.

I guess you've changed from Centaur QS Ergopowers to the Record ones? In which case, it sounds normal. The difference is in the shifters, not the derailleur.

Thanks for the reply. Yes thats right, I have cchanged my shifters to record QS. I had realised that the right thumb shifter would allow me to change 4 or 5 gears at a time down the cassette but I was just unsure why the left thumb shifter also clicked 4 or 5 times before the front mech positioned itself at the stop. As I said, it works fine, just differently from my Centaur QS and I just wanted to make sure that I had set it up properly after following instructions on front derailleur set up on Park Tools and Youtube.

Chorus and Record shifters continue to use a ratchet rather than escapement mechanism - the extra clicks allow you to fine tune the derailleur more easily. It also means that if needed you can use virtually any front derailleur if needed - I was playing around with an Ultegra CX top pull front mech with Chorus levers last night and it worked very sweetly!
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
