As per title and I can't afford one of them things that crawls sideways up hills!
However, it needs to be able to go up reasonable slopes, clear bushes, scrub, gorse etc with a reasonable rate of progress without completely destroying the site. This is more along the lines of size as in weight and buckets that would be needed. Looking to build trails, berms, tabletops, jumps etc
(not buying new either)

It all depends on the severity of your slopes that need clearing? Have you ever used a minidigger before? If you are using it on slopes you need to know how to manouver it on a slope and position the digger for digging/clearing.
The smaller 1.5T diggers can be very unstable. You really need to know how to operate it safely before hitting the slopes.Niner Air 9 Rigid

Whatever you get, make sure the tracks are wide...not the distance between the 2 tracks, the actual width of the track itself...wider distance between the 2 tracks will improve stability but a wider track will help spread it's weight and it shouldn't dig in quite as much.
When we were building, we had a 15 ton thing that left a smaller print than a foot did on the really soft ground...it was very impressive but it had really wide tracks, they were about 2 foot wide! The Quest for Singletrack is Endless...0 -
How did you get on with this after? I'm looking for a mini digger which will need to go on some pretty steep stuff so is there anything you could recommend? What's the hill crawling device mentioned above?!
Thanks!0 -
If you are renting, then a mini excavator like the JCB 8014 CTS or the 1CX, if you are buying then the 2 and 3 cxs or Midi CX are a lot more use for other things. Don't be attracted to the low resale prices these things can be money pits.0

1.5 tonne diggers can climb and work from very steep ground if the driver knows what he is doing but like has been said, they are very wobbly and scary.Papa? Nicole0
