OK.

You're in charge of the Giro route.

You've been given free rein to shake it up, and do what you want with it, though you'll be heavily scrutinised by your peers, riders, the press, and fans (so in this case us).

What route do you go for and why?

Any particular inclusions of note?

  • How about an ITT that starts at the top of Monte Crostis and ends at the top of the Zoncolan? :P

I'd like to have seen a stage that culminated upon Tre Cime de Lavaredo.

Very well known actor/narrator.......whose name I can't remember! (Michael Jayston maybe????)

I rather fancy the look of this April "newbie".

Finish in Rome every year outside the collosseum. One or two transition stages from the north might be feasible, and there's a few decent climbs in central Italy for a sting in the tail of the race.
It's only a bit of sport, Mun. Relax and enjoy the racing.

THIS is the climb that I am most miffed about NOT being included
    in the 2012 Giro.
Heavily rumoured, I was really looking forward to it's return, after 12 long years absence.
THE climb upon which, Francesco Casagrande almost sealed victory in the millenium edition.

I have started to watch this and it looks promising:

  • Stage over the Gavia. And if it's not snowing, I'd have some snow machines ready on standby...
  • KOM prize for Milan San Remo with a hefty cash prize.... (if there isnt one already...) Something to keep the pace high over all the climbs (the small italian teams would go crazy for it), not just the cipressa and the poggio. It might make the hills a bit more selective again.

If I was in charge of the Giro, I would work out who was the biggest Italian star and set a course to suit them. If the formula's not broken why fix it?

The 'proper' cycling fan will proclaim it a classic edition no matter what I do, because they have to say that the Giro is better than the Tour to prove their not a 'noob'.

Frankly, I'd welcome a Giro filled with greasedscotsman's bonkers ideas. While I disagree with them all, they're certainly interesting, and I'd like to see how they pan out.

Might make a Grand Tour organiser after all then!

Twice up the Alpe to decide the Tour ! Imagine the crowds for that one - they'd have to limit the numbers of people on the mountain surely - it's crazy enough as it is. It is a bit gimmicky though isn't it - I'd rather have a classic mountains stage than that - though I'd rather leave it as it is with the finish in Paris.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

I like the gravelled sections they seem to have now. Also a nice visit to roubaix country would be nice also for a one off.
I think the Colleseum is falling down due to dodgy builders playing Time Team with the place. Really don't like the locals there; what ever did the Romans do for us? A bunch of the most useless tosspots in the world. Only go to Rome if you want the p1ss taken out of you.

Sorry had a bad week on holiday there. Someone mentioned Rome an I lost control!!!!

Agreed! It's brutal, especially for Tuscany, although a bit of a let-down when you reach the summit - all that climbig an you're still in the trees. Can't believe why they haven't included it more often. It would be perfect for a real mountain stage before hitting the Alps.
    Thanks for that video link.

Now if they want real madness, they could try the Scanuppia:

+1 just need to watch with sound now. The pusher fall on his face, the copper ride over a spectator and not even bothering to stop, cars getting stuck on tight bends and just all round mad tifosi - incredible! Also seeing the riders on much higher gearing and the full body effort required to get up those slopes.
