cycleops magneto

Evening
I recently purchased a 2nd hand cycleops magneto. While my bike is on the trainer I cant change to the large chain ring. The bike is set up fine and gear selection works perfectly on the road. The bike is a giant defy, compact chain set with external BB.
The gear selection only seems to be a issue when the trainer roller is in contact with the tyre. I've checked the quick release is done up nice and tight, no cables are twisted or fouled while on the trainer.
Any ideas.
Thanks

Shifting is always more sluggish on a turbo IME. My bike shifts to the big chainring with much noise on the turbo, but smoothly on the road. Think its because you can't ease off the same on a turbo as you can on the road. Being very deliberate with your shifting and shifting to the big ring with the chain on the smaller sprockets helps.More problems but still living....0

Thanks, adjustment has sorted it. Surprised how much further over the front mech needs to be to allow shifting- when compared to road riding. Hope it doesn't onerous shoot when next out!0
