CXP22 upgrade to Ksyirum Equipe/Elite

I'm riding a Secteur elite with CXP22 standard spesh wheels.
100kg rider, which wheels should I upgrade to ?
White Equips look good and seem good quality but Elites are only £100 more and this is likely to be the only upgrade I do to the bike so want to make sure i get it right. Which are better for the heavier rider ?
Wheels will be for general commuting, sunday best and the odd sportive.
thanks

I would avoid the Equipes - I had a rear spoke pulling through the rim and cracks around about four other spoke holes, I am 80kg. The front brake track also very worn after a year's use.
The Elite rims I believe are a different material and should be much better.0 -
Given your weight and the fact that you don't complain about your current wheels, I would stick to them... you have the luxury of a strong set of wheels, there aren't many aroundleft the forum March 20230

Hi iandennis
I was in exactly the same position as you about 6 months ago. Bought my Secteur Elite last September and rode it through the winter with the factory fitted CXP22's. Decided that I needed to upgrade what were a "bombproof" but relatively heavy set of wheels and did as you have done - posted a query on hear.
I had a short list that included the Ksyrium Equipes and Elites if i could get them at a good price. However after receiving many responses the overwhelming advice was to go for a set of Shimano RS80's.
Took the plunge in July (got them from Merlin for just under £300) and I have not regretted it since. The RS80's are light and super smooth. It brings a smile to my face every time I ride the bike now.
Back then I was hovering around the 95kg mark but that did not put me off. Since then have lost around 10kg and now get even more enjoyment from the RS80's on the flat and especially in the climbs.
So give some thought to your final choice and stick the Shimano wheels into the mix. Available from Planet X for under £300 at the mo

RS80's over either of the mavics, but at your weight, I'd stick with what you have.0

Hmm, food for thought, really glad I asked the question.
Guess its either stick with the standard set or look at a set of handbuilds.
SPA Cycles seem to be a good choice for handbuilt wheels ?
Or wait until I have lost some more weight0 -
Ive been looking at custom wheels recently, and harry rowland, strada and just riding along seem to know what they're on about.
I think if you're going hand built, then the velocity A23 rims seem to be highly rated (over mavic anyway)0 -

You live down the road from me... PM me if you like and you can come over and see some of the wheels I have built earlierleft the forum March 20230 -

You poor bugger !!! Rims are fine. The hubs and freehub are a joke. Wondering how many of us are still riding them after owning the bike for a year. I know I've moved on.
Hope RS Mono's should be OK for your weight and last. They are traditional 32 spoke, 3 cross, and easy to fix and get spares. They are similar weights to some 20/24 spoke wheels and are around 1600 grams.0 -
Dear All,
Thank you all for your advice and ugo.santalucia thank you very much for your kind offer.
I've decided to go down the route of a quality set of hand builts and will be speaking to Harry Rowland for a set of Mavic open Pros with either 105 or Ultegra. 36 spokes
I've already lost 2 stone this year cycling but don't think i will every get below 15stone so durable quality wheels seem to be the right choice. I'll keep the CXP's as training wheels.
Thanks again.0 -
