Hello,

I’m hoping someone can help me out here...

I’m converting my triple crankset to a double with bash and chain guide.

For the chain guide I’m looking at a Blackspire Stinger

My crankset is a truvativ firex 3.0 GXP on a Commencal Meta 5.5 pro 2010

I haven’t had a look on the bike yet but i think it needs a BB mount.

Is there anyone out there who has experience installing a chainguide onto a GXP BB and can confirm what type of mount is needed?

Many thanks in advance!!

Do you have ISCG tabs? If so you can use a guide with the relevant mounting holes (ISCG/ISCG 05). That's probably the easier option.

If not, have you got a 73mm BB shell? (Just measure the width of the shell, in between the BB cups). If so, you can't use a BB mounted device unless you switch to a Shimano style BB and chainset. This is what I had to do.

If it's 68mm then remove a spacer from the driveside, and replace it with the BB mount device.

Look at your bike then see if you need to ask.

Also see if you have a 73mm bb as that may cause issues with what device you can use with that and those cranks.

You need a BB mount. I run a stinger on that bike myself with a SLX crankset. Just replace one of the spacers in the BB with the stinger mount plate. Instructions are on the Blackspire website.

I'll have a chance to get the cranks off tonight and have a look.
