Can I use a 9sp rear derailleur on a 10sp set up?

Title says it all. I have picked up a free 9sp rear Campag derailleur and am would like to know whether it can be used on my 10sp set up. My guess is that it would be OK, but would be grateful for any thoughts or pitfalls.

    I would assume so as it just does what the gear lever tells it to. Unless there are any radical changes between the 9 and 10 speed models.
    I'd try it.

    Yes, as long as your shifter is also Campag (obviously).

    Actually, I suppose it's not obvious at all, really. A sensible person might expect the bike manufacturers to standardise on something so trivial, but will they?
